Theresa "Terry" DeLorenzo

October 13, 1925 — December 23, 2021

DELORENZO, Theresa (Terry) - It is with overwhelming grief that the family of Theresa (Terry) DeLorenzo (nee Carey) announce her death on December 23rd, 2021 at the age of 96. Our Matriarch’s heritage hailed from County Wexford, Ireland. She was born and raised in Whitney Pier, Sydney, Nova Scotia prior to relocating to Barrie at 18 years of age.  She was a devout Roman Catholic with very strong faith; this was reflected in the plethora of Holy Rosaries she’d collected over the years. Terry was adored, cherished and revered by her surviving daughter’s, Shelly (Paula), Wendy, Paula (Bob) and Carolyn (Dan). She was idolized by her grandchildren, Jason (Tara), Anthony (Sierra), Nick, Stephanie (Stephen), Courtney (Jake), Harrison (Jocelyn) and Samm; treasured by her great-grandchildren, Claudia, Corrado, Gabriela, Cohen, Eleanor, Kodak and Hawkeye. She is predeceased by the late Giuseppe (Peppy) DeLorenzo, their infant daughter, Ann Marie and their only son, Joseph. Terry was fiercely devoted to her family first and foremost. She was affectionate, warm, doting, highly intelligent with an impeccable memory, generous, feisty, nurturing and fun loving. She possessed a marvelous sense of humour. Her delicious cooking & baking expertise were unrivaled! Two weeks ago she was baking batches of her “melt in your mouth” shortbread cookies; Christmas was her favourite time of year. She was gorgeous with exquisite taste; a “fashionista” with a fantastic flare for lovely clothes, footwear and handbags. She was exceptional, truly a remarkable woman! Terry was a Medical Secretary in excess of 30 years of her life; throughout her career she also did OHIP billing for several hospitalist physicians at the old RVH. She volunteered there in the Gift Shop and geriatric ward, feeding and reading to the elderly patients. She was a diligent, congenial, exemplary employee. Our house was constantly filled with so much love, roars of laughter, music and dancing but especially singing!  As a result, it was the gathering place for all of our friends to congregate regularly due to their mutual respect, fondness and admiration for our amazing Mom. There was always room for several extra place settings at our supper table. Her hospitality, zest for life, love of children and animals were incomparable. We were extremely blessed and fortunate to have had her in our lives for so many years. She was deeply loved; her vivacious personality and beautiful smile will be sadly missed forever. Her song has ended but her melody lingers on! Thank you to Dr. Reardon, the 4th floor, Surgery Unit 3 nurses & staff and Dr. Kolesky for their wonderful care!

“If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, we would walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again!”

A private family service will be held at the JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie. Interment St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.funeralhome.on.ca
